urban redevelopment
capelle an den ijssel - the netherlands, competition

Capelle an den Ijssel is a site where the disjunction between public transport and the green belt surrounding Rotterdam can be overcome. This renders the place both urban and rural, and questions redevelopment processes vis-a-vis contemporary economic crisis. In the light of this, the project proposed to discretize urban redevelopment but to keep a homogeneous functional mix, and to articulate the relationship between existing and new infrastructure so as to permit both autonomy and mutualism among the two. Indeed, the project aimed at redeveloping the suburban environment without increasing the administrative complexity of urban structures.
