public space redevelopment
caslano - switzerland

Switzerland is the country of sub-urbanity. Indeed, despite an extensive infrastructural network that stems from the unique position of the country in the middle of Europe, the Swiss cities are small and often turn away from the infrastructure. In other words, they avoid creating larger urban structures, notwithstanding large scale urban dynamics take place in Switzerland, too. So, the project elaborates on this unique contradiction and proposes a form of public space redevelopment that is capable structuring a deeper relationship between infrastructure and Swiss sub-urbanity. In particular, given the uniqueness of Switzerland, the project exploits the tools of planning, urban design, and architecture in integrated form, thus investigating the possibility of a design discipline that acknowledges the complexity of today's human environment.
