footpaths for the city - 3

This book is a product of the research infrarealities - unraveling the management and maintenance of the urban condition, organized by i2a - international institute of architecture. The administrative fragmentation of the contemporary landscape is a key-condition for human development: it is more than necessary in order to manage the increasing numbers of infrastructure that mankind currently uses. Within this framework, architecture plays a crucial role: indeed, only spatial articulation can avoid that such fragmentation should turn into a catalyser of urban and social splintering. This notwithstanding, a lack of understanding of the relationship that binds infrastructure and their administration characterizes the discipline of architecture today. In this context, ‘Foothpaths for the City’ is an attempt not only to demonstrate the skills and duties of architecture, but also to show how the pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure requires specific attention in relation to this issue. Developed in collaboration with Boris Hamzeian and Gloria Castellini, this book hosts critical essays by Giovanni Galli (Università degli Studi di Genova), Marco Casamonti (Archea), Riccardo Miselli (Neostudio), Alessandro Cariello and Rossella Ferorelli (Smallab).
