The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs promoted a day dedicated to the Italian design by organizing 100 events in 100 cities around the world, including Taipei. The concept of the Italian Design Day, proposed by Andrea Cancellato, general director of the Triennale di Milano, represented a visibility opportunity for Italian companies to show the world the excellence of Italian design and quality. In cooperation with BIAS Architects and the Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Office, on occasion of the 2017 event, the renowned Italian architect and graphic designer, Mario Piazza, was invited as the Design Ambassador to the "2017 Italian Design Day Forum." The event included five lectures to confront Italian and Taiwanese design, and debated the local and international relevance of 2016 Taipei World Design Capital. On occasion of the 2018 event, the architect and director of the European Institute of Design, Riccardo Balbo, was invited as the Design Ambassador to the "2018 Italian Design Day Forum." The event included a lecture to confront Italian and Taiwanese design, and debated the different approach to design and landscape.
